Custom Kraft Stand-Up Pouch with Shaped Window for a German Food Brand

Case Overview

This is a successful case demonstrating how we customized a custom kraft stand-up pouch with shaped window and brand printing for a German food brand. From initial requirement discussion to sample order placement, the entire process was handled efficiently and professionally from concept to execution.

Client & Requirements

  • Client: German food brand (B2C retail)

  • Contact: Ina

The client planned to use kraft paper stand-up pouches for breakfast cereals and cookies and requested a custom-shaped window combined with brand printing, aiming to differentiate the packaging from common window styles on the market.

Key Specifications:

  • Filling weight: approximately 350 g of cereal

  • Reference capacity: around 1000 ml

  • Target size: 20 × 30 + 5 cm

  • Minimum order quantity inquiry: starting from 1,000 pcs

Solution Diagnosis

  • Structure Recommendation:
The outer kraft paper layer is laminated to improve color performance and barrier stability. The inner layer is food-grade PE, ensuring reliable heat sealing and precise positioning of the transparent window.

  • Printing Options:
For high-saturation, multi-color designs, we recommend printing on outer film and then laminating with kraft paper, which delivers richer colors while protecting the ink.
For a more natural aesthetic, direct printing on kraft paper is also available.

  • Window Design:
The custom-shaped (non-standard) window from the client’s sketch is fully supported. The window is positioned in the main visual triangle area, coordinated with key selling points such as “Proteinreich” and “Nachhaltig.”

Communication & Confirmation

  • A stand-up pouch capacity reference chart was provided to help the client determine size and material thickness based on actual filling volume. The 20 × 30 + 5 cm size was confirmed to accommodate 350 g of cereal with sufficient bottom gusset space.

  • Comparison videos and images were shared to clearly demonstrate the visual and tactile differences between direct kraft paper printing and the film + kraft paper + PE laminated structure, including color appearance, pouch stiffness, and opening performance.

  • The window was clearly defined as a custom-shaped window, not a standard market window, requiring die-cut tooling based on the client’s sketch to ensure a distinctive appearance.

Commercial Action

After confirming the MOQ and sampling process, the client was guided to complete payment on the platform to initiate sampling. The client completed the payment on the same day (“Just paid”), and the project moved into the sample production stage with clear and traceable timelines.

Pain Points Addressed

  • Differentiated Display:
The custom-shaped window allows consumers to see the cereal directly while maintaining the natural kraft paper look, improving shelf recognition and trust.

  • Balance Between Printing Performance and Barrier Properties:
The laminated structure provides higher color gamut and scratch resistance while preserving the natural appearance and structural strength of the kraft pouch, suitable for moisture-sensitive cereal products.

  • Uncertainty in Size Selection:
Capacity charts and real-product videos supported decision-making and reduced the risk of repeated sampling and size rework.

Results & Milestones

  • Requirement Clarification:
From an initial inquiry about window and printing feasibility to a clear sampling specification of 20 × 30 + 5 cm, custom-shaped window, laminated structure, all confirmed within one round of same-day communication.

  • Design Execution:
The client’s sketch was successfully translated into a manufacturable solution, with printing layers and window die-cut methods clearly defined and sampling parameters finalized.

  • Payment Initiation:
Online payment was completed, and sample production was scheduled, laying a solid foundation for future bulk orders starting from 1,000 pcs.

Reusable Experience

  • Locking in size based on capacity and filling scenarios first, then discussing structure and window design, can significantly shorten sampling cycles and reduce rework.

  • For kraft paper pouches with strong color requirements, outer film printing with kraft paper lamination offers superior color stability, abrasion resistance, and more precise window cutting.

  • Short videos showing pouch opening, bottom gusset structure, and material feel help build client confidence quickly and accelerate payment decisions.
